OUR INSTRUCTOR :

Shaswati Basu (Founder - Aarambhik school of dance) has over 10 years of learning Kathak and has completed classical Dance Development Program from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, India under Guru Paresh Das. Even after 10+ years of learning Kathak Dance, Shaswati's zeal for knowledge and to learn more has not come down. She is continuing her training under her mentor Guru Pandita Archana Joglekar Ji. She is a highly reputed Kathak Dancer in the current generation.
According to Shaswati, Kathak is a dance form in which the dancer feels free and is not bound to the floor in one place. It allows to be choreographed and designed by itself. She follows this principle in her teaching and choreography. Shaswati has moved to the US 6+ years back and since then she has been performing and choreographing at various dance related events in the Boston area. In 2016, she was one of the choreographers at a Fund Raiser event for the American Cancer Society.
Currently, she runs a Dance School named "Aarambhik School of Dance" for the age group of 4+ till adults. Kathak is her main focus but she also teaches Bollywood and Fusion dance forms.
Aarambhik School is currently affiliated to Samved Conservatory of Indian Classical Music and Dance, based out of New Jersey. Samved Conservatory is a very effective and diligent exam board established for conducting Indian Classical Arts form exams for the entire North America. Students will be receiving certificates (for Kathak) after they complete each level of the curriculum. Exams are conducted twice a year for this purpose.

Payment and Missed Class Policy:

Training requires consistency in order to achieve the most benefit. However, we understand that students may occasionally need to miss a class. Use the following guidelines to ensure that you get the most out of your classes at The Academy of Creative Arts.

  1. All the students should pay their semester fees at the beginning of the session. Students who do not pay at the beginning will not be allowed to join the class. This is to better manage the financial aspects in the academy

  2. Fees will not be adjusted if a student misses their classes. If the class remains closed, fees will not be charged for that class. However, if a student misses their class, then the management or the teacher is not responsible for the makeup class. However, videos of the missed class(es) if available will be shared with the student

  3. Every student and parent should maintain discipline and show respect towards the guru or teacher

  4. Everyone entering the class should remove their shoes outside the class before entering

  5. Dress Code: Students should be dressed in Salwar-Kameez, and Dupatta properly draped, and their hair should be neatly tied back. In case of short hair, students should wear a hair band or put clips. For smaller kids, dupatta is optional

  6. Parents can be present in the class only if required and permitted by the teacher. Else, it is preferable for parents to wait outside the class

  7. The Academy management/school/teacher is not responsible for any physical injury or hurt caused to the students during the process of learning dance or while being in the class or on the building premises

  8. The school/teacher has the right to discontinue training of any student if they fail to abide by the rules

We wish you a wonderful learning experience - these policies are required so that we can be respectful of the instructors time and commitment.
